Exotic car insurance
Agreed-value coverage for supercars, hypercars and limited-production exotics. As an independent agency, The Policy Shopper compares Hagerty, Chubb, American Collectors, AIG and NCM to find the right fit for your car and how you drive it.
The problem
Why a standard auto policy falls short
Most standard auto policies settle a total loss at actual cash value: what the car is worth on the day of the loss, minus depreciation, as the insurer sees it. For a Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren or limited-run Porsche, that number can be very different from what the car actually costs to replace.
Exotics also cost more to repair. Carbon-fiber panels, specialist technicians and manufacturer parts add up quickly, and liability exposure is higher when the car itself is worth more than many homes. A policy designed for everyday commuters is rarely built for that.
The solution
What exotic car coverage can include
- Agreed value. A value set up front that is paid in a total loss, with no depreciation argument afterward.
- Repair options. Depending on the carrier, choice of repair shop and manufacturer parts.
- Flexible use. Programs for weekend-only cars as well as exotics driven more often.
- Track-day options. Separate HPDE and track coverage from carriers that offer it.
- Higher liability limits. Coordinated with an umbrella policy for extra protection.
- Multi-car and LLC titling. Support for collections and cars held in an LLC or trust.
Features, limits and eligibility vary by carrier, state and vehicle, and all coverage is subject to underwriting approval.

FAQ
Exotic car insurance questions
Do exotic cars need special insurance?
Not legally, but most exotic owners are better served by a collector or high-value auto policy than a standard one. Standard policies usually pay actual cash value after a loss, which can fall well short of what an exotic is worth or what it costs to replace. Collector and high-value programs are typically written on an agreed value set when the policy starts.
How is the agreed value for an exotic set?
You and the carrier agree on the car's value up front, usually based on the purchase price, recent comparable sales, the car's options and condition, and in some cases an appraisal. If the car is a total loss, the agreed amount is what the policy pays. We help you gather what the carrier needs so the number is right.
Can I drive my exotic regularly?
It depends on the carrier and program. Some collector policies are built for limited pleasure use and ask that you have another car for daily driving, while high-value auto programs can allow regular use. Tell us how you actually drive the car and we will match you with a program that fits.
Are track days covered?
Track and HPDE use is normally excluded from street policies. Some carriers offer separate track-day coverage. Ask us and we will quote what is available for your car and the events you attend.
Which insurance companies do you work with for exotic cars?
The Policy Shopper is appointed with Hagerty, Chubb, American Collectors Insurance, AIG and NCM Insurance. As an independent agency we compare them for your car rather than selling a single company's policy.
Do you insure exotics outside New Jersey?
Yes. The Policy Shopper is based in East Brunswick, New Jersey, and works with clients throughout the United States, subject to each carrier's state availability and underwriting.
General information only. Coverage depends on the carrier, your state and the policy terms.
